DECEMBER 2009 MEETING

Our December meeting was hosted by Gloria on Sunday afternoon, December 20th, at 2:00pm. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch and then had an ornament exchange. Several members stole each other's ornaments in the Chinese Exchange and a lively time was had by all. Following the exchange we discussed our book selections for 2010. After that, we discussed the December book, Christ the Lord, by Ann Rice. Several members mentioned Ann Rice's previous books which we have read and we discussed her different style of writing at this time in her career. We all agreed that this book was a perfect one for the month of December. We ended our meeting with dessert, which was a delicious pineapple upside down cake and fruitcake cookies.

More October Meeting Thoughts

I had a great time at Karen’s October meeting. That potato peel pie was delicious. Wow!
If you could not make it to the meeting you really missed a great meeting and fabulous food.
If Karen will send me the pictures we took and the recipe I will post them on our blog.
Some of you asked how to comment on the blog.
You need to get a Google account and then go to our blog and you can post a comment.
You can also post a new topic. Here is the link to get your account:
https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount
It would be great if a few of you would post a comment after each meeting.
Here is a link to our blog:

Someone asked about how to get to the blog. If you just create a shortcut on your desktop or put it under your favorites then it’s very easy to find.

Thought some of you would like to pass this link on to any guys in your families. It has books for kids up to adults.

October Book Club Meeting

It was so good to see your cute faces again. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves writing and people. The dinner was grand- Karen makes a mean potato pie! So what if she has to take a day off to do it... we love to have her at the meetings. I'll miss you all at November's meeting, but see you soon. Thanks for the fun, Karen.

July Book Club Meeting

On July 28th 2009 the WOW book club discussed the book Loving Frank by Nancy Horan.
Present were Gloria, Karen M., Corrine, Debbie, Angie, Joyce, Linda, Barb, Margie.
Missing were Sharon, Stephanie and Diane.
Hostess was Karen T.
The discussion was a lively one with different points of view. Most members did not like the characters Mamah and Frank. We could not get past the fact that Maymah abandoned her husband, Edwin, and their children. We found Frank to be a brilliant architect but a man who thought he was above everyone, an arrogant man with a huge ego.
A few members thought Maymah felt stuck in a relationship which had no intellectual stimulation. They thought she seemed to be a woman who needed something out of life besides marriage and children.
Linda brought a beautiful book about Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs that we all looked at and Angie shared some wonderful quotes from the book.
Refreshments served were a Chicken Caesar salad, French bread, cheesecake and a banana nut cream cake.
The meeting ended at about 10:30pm.
